When you hear music,
after it's over,
in the air.
You can never
capture it again.
When Dolphy made this statement, he was referring to the fact that music is never the same twice. Even the smallest nuance changes the nature of a musical performance. This group, Lost and Found, is the embodiment of this quote. Nothing is preconceived for any performance; there are no melodies, no forms, no structures, yet there is only melody, form and structure. Once the playing ceases, it will never be repeated.
The musicians on this recording are people I feel I have an extraordinary connection with. Both Paul and Dave are musicians who are always willing to allow the music to go where it wants (and needs) to go. I am constantly surprised by the telepathy that seems to exist in this ensemble, and am extremely grateful to be able to make music in this way, with these people. This music is boundless, joyful, penetrating, thoughtful, poignant. There is a story to each of these tracks, a tale that will be different for every listener.
